Chocolate pie was always one of my favorite holiday treats! I loved it so much that I wanted to make a version that was healthy, easy to make, and DELICIOUS, using only whole, plantbased foods. I also wanted it to be gluten free. Turns out, this version is incredibly decadent, rich, and one of the most delicious chocolate treats that I’ve had! You’ll love my No-bake Black Bean Chocolate Pie not just for its taste but also for its health properties!
This vegan chocolate pie uses only 6 ingredients, and you never need to turn the stove on! The secret ingredient, black beans, is what gives this pie its creaminess, and it even makes this dessert high in protein! It is also gluten free and can actually help to balance certain body types, according to Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, the ancient medicine system of India, legumes are high in Vata energy (or Air energy). This is why they can sometimes produce gas and bloating because they literally fill you up with AIR. Out of the three body types in Ayurveda, beans are best for Pitta (Fire energy) and Kapha (Earth energy) types. This is because in Ayurveda, you want to eat foods that are opposite in energy to your body type to balance you out!
So, someone who is a Pitta body type, for example, tends to have a lot of FIRE in their body, which means lots of acid, high liver enzymes, and heat. Air energy foods, like beans, help to calm down their Fire energy and keep them balanced!
This makes this No-bake Vegan Black Bean Chocolate Pie a very simple Ayurvedic dessert that can help to balance both Pitta and Kapha types!
Pitta and Kapha recipes like this can help if you want to:
- Reduce excess weight, growths, and cysts
- Reduce body inflammation, burning, and swelling
- Reduce anger, lethargy, and depressive emotions
- Reduce mucus in the stool
- Get energized
- Clear red, oily skin or pus in the skin
- Reduce heavy menstrual bleeding
- Improves digestion for Kapha and Pitta constitutions
Ayurvedic Healing Ingredients
Some of the Ayurvedic energetics of the ingredients in this Vegan Black Bean Chocolate Pie recipe include:
Black beans
High in Air and Space energy (Vata dosha), black beans are best for Pitta and Kapha types. They help to reduce body inflammation and swelling. They help with weight loss, clear bodily congestion, and reduce mucus.
Raw Cacao Powder
Raw Cacao Powder is made by drying and powdering the fermented cocoa bean before it gets processed into chocolate. Because it is minimally processed, it retains a high degree of minerals including magnesium and potassium. Its bitter quality makes it a spectacular ingredient for Kapha types, because bitter taste reduces Earth energy and helps to dry up excess water, fat, and mucus. In small amounts, this bitterness is also great for Pitta types. In large amounts, Vata types can be disturbed by this ingredient and become dry and jittery.
Coconut
High in Earth and Water energy, coconut is calming to both Pitta and Vata dosha. The meat from a young coconut can be used in smoothies for added potassium. Coconut water is a natural electrolyte source. Coconut milk is best when preservative-free and made fresh from grated coconut to maximize nutritional benefit. It is great for balancing anxiety and anger, as well as promoting healthy reproductive tissue and lactation. Dry coconut is balancing for all body types but can upset Vata dosha in excessive amounts.
