Keep your “Air” element in check with this grounding Ayurvedic oatmeal! A Vata-balancing breakfast, this oatmeal will satisfy your belly and your tastebuds. It will even work on stabilizing the brain and lubricating the skin and fluid channels of the body.
Vata dosha is associated with our “Air” energy. Especially during the “Air” season of autumn, Vata dosha can get out of balance, causing anxiety, loss of menstruation, arthritis, headaches, pain, dryness, and indigestion. During the autumn season, we must give our “Air” element a little extra love with more Earthy, grounding recipes to keep our bodies and minds stable and to prevent the build-up of toxins in the colon. These toxins accumulate and eventually cause disease.
Recipes like this can help if you want to:

Ayurvedic Healing Ingredients
Some of the Ayurvedic energetics of the ingredients include:
Oats
Oats have long been a go-to breakfast staple. Rolled oats are processed and steamed so that they can have a quicker cooking time, making for the fast breakfast many of us enjoy. Steel cut oats retain the husk of the oat grain and are more fibrous, although they can be more difficult to digest if you have a weak digestion. Ayurvedically, oats have an “Earth” energy and are balancing for high Fire and high Air elements in the body. They are great for balancing anger and anxiety, producing a calming, grounding “Earth” effect on the mind and body.
Flax Seeds
Flax seeds are high in Earth energy and best for Vata types. They are great for healthy hormone production and proper functioning of the nervous system, brain, and gastrointestinal tract. They are a great replacement for eggs as a binder in baking or burger/patty/”meat”ball making, with less cholesterol and a healthy Omega 3 ratio. Although they have an Earth energy, they are a better choice than eggs, even for Kapha and Pitta types, because they are less “ama” (toxin) producing and easier to digest if you have a weakened digestion.
Cinnamon
High in Fire energy, cinnamon is a perfect heating spice to warm an imbalanced “Air” element and melt excess “Earth/Water” elements. It is great for keeping the blood sugar stable, dissolving excess fat, reducing headaches, reducing lethargy, and reducing anxiety.

Hi Kristina,
While your site and recipes look great, I’m a bit confused by the labels given to many of your recipes. I’ve just looked at at least 5 recipes that are labeled Vegan, but all include ghee. Ghee is clarified butter, therefore not “vegan” in any way whatsoever. Could you clarify why/how you use the vegan label?
Thanks,
Melissa
Hi love! I just went through my recipes to check. This recipe does say ghee and I forgot to include the optional on that part! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. For all other recipes, I do not list ghee as a requirement. I say ghee or oil so that people who are vegan can use oil and those who are not can use ghee! The recipes themselves are vegan but the oil for cooking I leave up to the person. I was assuming vegans know that ghee is not vegan, but you are 100% right that I should be more clear!! It’s definitely possible that they might not know. I will be more clear on that from now on. Thank you 🙂
