A favorite Middle-Eastern meal, falafel is actually very Ayurvedic! Composed primarily of garbanzo beans, herbs, and spices, they are high in “Air” energy and balancing for both Pitta and Kapha dosha. Just like with burgers, they can be taken with a variety of sauces, herbs, and vegetables to suit your primary dosha.

Enjoy this Ayurvedic Falafel to balance Pitta and Kapha doshas within you. Ideal for the spring and summer seasons and in more progressive deep-tissue disorders to cleanse ama (toxins) from the body.

Ayurvedic Healing Ingredients

Some of the Ayurvedic energetics of the ingredients in this recipe include:

Garbanzo beans (Chickpeas)

High in Air and Space energy, chickpeas are best for Pitta and Kapha types. They help to reduce body inflammation and swelling. They help with weight loss and help to clear bodily congestion.

Parsley

A bitter herb, parsley is high in Air and Space energy, and it helps to cleanse “ama,” or undigested food and toxins from the body. It helps to scrape built-up plaque and toxins within the blood vessels, lungs, heart, liver, spleen, and gallbladder. It is excellent for edema, varicose veins, and poor circulation from stagnated blood flow.

Flax seeds

Flax seeds are high in Earth energy and best for Vata types. They are great for healthy hormone production and proper functioning of the nervous system, brain, and gastrointestinal tract. They are a great replacement for eggs as a binder in baking or burger/patty/”meat”ball making, with less cholesterol and a healthy Omega 3 ratio. Although they have an Earth energy, they are a better choice than eggs, even for Kapha and Pitta types, because they are less “ama” (toxin) producing and easier to digest if you have a weakened digestion.

Oregano

A “warming,” stimulating spice with a pungent vipaka (post-digestive effect). When consumed as a fresh herb, it helps to remove excess weight and bodily congestion. It also helps to regularize bowel movements and balance dry or oily skin. It helps to balance both Vata and Kapha dosha.
